After Rep. Cynthia Lummis, R-Wyo., admitted in “an indelicate statement” about climate change that she herself emits greenhouse gases, an environmental group sent her something to help her reduce her methane footprint: Gas-X Ultra-Strength. 

“You can measure our emissions with a high degree of accuracy,” Lummis said Wednesday during her testimony before the House Natural Resources Committee. “What is difficult . . . but perhaps impossible to measure, is how much our emissions actually contribute to global warming or global cooling or other global climate changes that impact our environment.”

The next day, Lummis received a gas-relieving care package from the Sierra Club.

“While we applaud your recognition of methane as a climate-disrupting greenhouse gas, we can only imagine that this intestinal issue must be uncomfortable if you found it relevant enough to bring up before a meeting in the United States Congress,” the Sierra Club wrote to Lummis. “It could, consequently, be causing you discomfort that may distract from your focus on important issues that matter to your constituents in Wyoming, like the reality of climate science and solutions to tackle the climate crisis.”
