AMERICUS — Mrs. Sallie Mae Miller Layfield, 81, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015, at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center.
Funeral services are planned for 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 2, from the graveside at Oak Grove Cemetery. Brother John Dent will officiate.
Friends are welcome to call at any time at the family residence, 825 Ridge St. in Americus.
A native of Sumter County, she was born on June 12, 1934, to the late Ned O. Miller and Anna R. Johnson Miller.
Mrs. Layfield was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and was a Licensed Practical Nurse, having spent her entire working life employed by Sumter Regional Hospital. She was a devoted grandmother who dearly loved her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: H.L. Layfield Jr. (Wanda) of Oglethorpe, Pam Thaxton (Morgan) of Gadsden, Ala., Randy Layfield of Ellaville, Danny Layfield of Americus, and Dianna Windham (Danny) of Ellaville; grandchildren: Scotty Layfield, Heather Layfield, Anna Layfield, Elijah Layfield, Dalton Windham, and Dylan Windham; and she was blessed with several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Layfield was preceded in death by her husband, H.L. Layfield Sr., by two brothers: Jake Miller and Ted Miller, and by a sister, Betty Drake.
