Sumter associate superintendent is new Quitman Co. superintendent

AMERICUS — After an hour and 15-minute closed session near the end of Thursday’s regular meeting, the Sumter County Board of Education came back into open session and uanimously approved the recommendations of the personnel committee. Among those items were releasing Associate Superintendent Victoria Harris from her contract as she has accepted the position of superintendent of Quitman County Schools. Assistant Superintendent Walter Knighton was transferred to replace Harris’ position.
In other items from the personnel committee, the board approved the following — retirements: Lorine Frazier and Kip Harris; resignations: Esther Simpson, Latoya Watts and Lyana Smith; terminations: Debra Bridges and Clara Luster; employments: Becky Smith, Corey Richardson and Michael Nottage; and Family Medical Leaves: Barbara Allen and Shirley Waymon.

In other business, the board took the following action.
• Approved the financial reports, accounts payable for November 2015 and the preliminary cash flow report.
• Accepted a bid from Conger for propane gas.
