OGLETHORPE — Mrs. Helen Jean Head Grace, 85, of Oglethorpe, Ga., passed away Friday, Dec. 18, 2015. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015 at Oglethorpe Baptist Church in Oglethorpe, Ga. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service at the church. The Rev. Chet Ragsdale will officiate the service. Burial will be private.
Mrs. Grace was born Dec. 23, 1929, in Oglethorpe, Ga., to the late Allen Jackson Head Sr. and Irene Murphy Head. She was a member of Oglethorpe Baptist Church and the Living Loving Lutherans group. Mrs. Grace ran Mitcham’s Women’s Apparel store in Oglethorpe for a number of years. She also co-managed the Oglethorpe swimming pool with Mrs. Barbara Coogle. Most affectionately known as “Nana” by her family, she loved and adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Grace was preceded in death by her first husband, Collis E. Grace Sr., and her second husband, Joseph P. Dyer; two brothers: Allen Head Jr. and Murphy Head; and a sister, Sarah Head Trask.
Mrs. Grace is survived by her two children: Collis E. (Deborah) Grace Jr. of Montezuma, Ga., and Sara Lynn (John) Lamberth of Cobb, Ga.; four grandchildren: Rodney (Lynne) Lamberth, Lee Allen Lamberth, Jessica Grace (Jim) Lacey, and Trip (Jennifer) Grace; and a brother, Harmon W. Head Sr. of Fort Valley, Ga. She also leaves behind nine great-grandchildren: Tanner Lamberth, Jake Lamberth, Luke Lamberth, Grace Ann Lacey, Bo Lacey, Dru Grace, Ty Grace, Eli Grace, and Judah Grace; and many beloved nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.
