DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Sarah Jeanette Wise Harris, 96, passed away on Dec. 17, 2015, at Seaside Health and Rehabilitation Center, Daytona Beach, Fla.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 22 in the chapel of Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., with the Rev. Brooks Partain officiating. Burial is to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family received friends between the hours of 6 and 8 p.m.  on Monday evening, Dec. 21, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.
Sarah was born on Oct. 8, 1919, in Plains, Georgia. She graduated from Plains High School. While in school, she played basketball with the girls’ team, known as the “Plains Buffaloes.” The team was so good they won most of their games.
In Plains, Sarah met Blake Ernest Harris and they were married on April 16, 1939. The couple moved to Savannah, Ga., and lived there for almost 12 years, before moving to New Smyrna Beach, Fla.
In 1957, Sarah started working at The Bank of New Smyrna (later Southeast Bank), where she started out in the bookkeeping department and later was promoted to personal banker. She worked there for 27 years, retiring in 1984. She enjoyed gardening, baking and spending time with her family and friends. Sarah was actively involved with her Sunday School Class at The First Baptist Church of New Smyrna Beach. She was always available to lend a helping hand to those in need.
Sarah is survived by two daughters: Patricia Gay (Raymond) of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., and Jean Braddock (Bert) of Sarasota, Fla.; three grandchildren: Patricia Winters (Roger) of Winter Springs, Fla., Laura Braddock of Sarasota, Fla., and Stuart Braddock (Nicole) of Denver, Colo.; one brother, Billy Wise of Brunswick; two sisters: Edna Mae Hendricks of Americus, Betty Albritton of Americus; and several nieces and nephews.
Sarah was preceded in death by her husband Blake Ernest Harris; her parents, Luther Alonzo Wise and Ella May Shirley Wise; and two brothers, P.J. Wise and Morgan Wise.
