Domestic incident leads to homicide

AMERICUS — A Valentine’s Day domestic dispute led to a stabbing death Sunday night in Americus.
Americus Police and EMS were called to 821 Ridge St. at approximately 8:48 p.m. in reference to a stabbing incident.
The victim, 32-year-old Courtney Antwan Jackson of 122 Tom Hall Circle, Americus, was transported to Phoebe Sumter Medical Center where he was pronounced dead with two stab wounds to the upper body.
Maj. Richard McCorkle, head of the police department’s criminal investigations division, said an investigation resulted in the arrest of 42-year-old Lashonda Terry of 821 Ridge St. She is currently charged with one count of murder and is being held at the Sumter Law Enforcement Center.
McCorkle said Terry is the person who called 911 reporting a stabbing at the residence and seeking medical assistance. He said she was standing in the roadway when officers arrived.
The investigation is ongoing and any further comment will come from the District Attorney of the Southwest Judicial Circuit.
