Liked coverage; wants more
The TR has given excellent coverage of the exciting run of the Americus Sumter High School girls’ basketball team all the way to a state championship, but they were not the first girls’ team to do so. Your sports editor Michael might want to take a quick stroll down memory lane by looking back 50 years to the season when the AHS girls’ basketball team took the state crown, in March 1966. They defeated Cochran 62-56 under the superb coaching of Melvin Kinslow. Check the microfilm — it was quite a season.
