GSW’s Tierce named to DII CCA All-Region First Team

AMERICUS – Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) softball player, Hayley Tierce, has recently added another accolade to her freshman season by being named to the 2016 Division II CCA Softball All-Southeast Region First Team presented by Daktronics.
Tierce was also named the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and was selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division II Southeast All-Region First Team for her performance on the softball diamond with the GSW Lady Hurricanes during the 2016 season.
The Warner Robins native started in 53 of GSW’s 56 games and hit .392, going on to wrap up the season with 58 hits, 35 runs, 12 doubles, 16 home runs, 51 RBIs, and a .956 fielding percentage. She lead the Peach Belt Conference in home runs, was second in RBIs, slugging percentage and total bases, and seventh in batting average. Furthermore, Tierce broke the GSW NCAA era season home run record with 16 dingers and holds the season RBI record with 51.
Tierce is one of 14 student-athletes from seven different schools who earned All-Southeast Region First Team distinction this season. The Peach Belt Conference had 16 honorees on the two teams, while the South Atlantic Conference had 11 and the Conference Carolinas two.
The first team selections moved on to the All-America ballot. The D2CCA All-America programs honor student-athletes in Division II athletic programs. The mission of the CCA is to encourage and promote Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education.
The voting, nomination and calculations are all conducted by the school’s sports information directors. The teams are voted on by the members of D2SIDA, NCAA Division II Sports Information Directors Association.
