GUSTA — Mrs. Alice Bessielene Allmon-Slappey, age 87, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016, at University Hospital of Augusta. She was formerly of Milledgeville, Ga., but lived most of her life in Americus.
Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. on Monday, June 20, from the graveside at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Brooks Partain will officate.
The family will receive friends between the hours of 9 and 9:45 a.m. on Monday morning at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St.
Born May 9, 1929, in Toombs County, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Mary Elizabeth Salter. Mrs. Slappey worked for many years as an x-ray technician at Central State Hospital in Milledgeville and at Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus. She was a graduate of Brewton High School in East Dublin, Ga., and also of the Crandall Business School and the CSH School of Radiology. Mrs. Slappey was a member of the Assemblies of God.
She was preceded in death by her parents; by two husbands: A.J. Allmon and Lennick Slappey; and by three brothers: Curtis Salter, Ralph Salter, and Randall Salter.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Chavers; one grandson, Timmy Chavers; one granddaughter, Brooke Curry (Brad); one great-granddaughter, Kenzleigh Curry; one sister, MaryNell Tanner (Vunion); one brother, Earl Salter (Lisa); and several nieces and nephews.
