HARTFORD, Conn. — Mr. Atward King, 83, of Hartford, Connecticut, passed away on Monday, July 11, 2016. He was born on July 4, 1933, in Preston, Webster County, Georgia, to the late Lucille Johnson Dancil. He received his education in the Webster County School System. At an early age he joined the Mount Ararat Baptist Church, Preston, Georgia.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at St. Mark A.M.E. Life Center, 1667 Bishop Johnson Circle, Plains. The Rev. Shirley Strawter will officiate.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Ms. Arrie Mae Browner King Harvey; his adoptive parents Mack Sr. and Pearlie King; his mother Lucille Johnson Dancil; his adoptive parents Mr. Mack King Sr. and Mrs. Pearlie Johnson King; two sisters, Mrs. Florrie Belle King Jackson, Sally Mae Mansfield; brothers Mr. Christopher King and Mr. Mack King Jr.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Arrie Browner King Harvey. To this union was born one lovely daughter Clara Ann King.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his former wife, Mrs. Georgia Lee King of Preston, Ga.; two daughters, Mrs. Mary (William) Hoston of Leslie, Ga., and Mrs. Clara (Elzie) Wilburn of Parrott, Ga.; three grandchildren, Mr. Wendell (Shawn) King of Douglasville, Ga., Ms. Kenya Jackson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Mr. Matthew Wilburn of Columbus, Ga.; five great-grandchildren, Chakera Bateman of Las Vegas, Nevada, Darious McCray, Americus, Georgia, Kennedy King, Kendal King, and Kristen King, all of Douglasville, Georgia; one great-great-grandchild, Darious Antwan LaJustin McCray Jr., Americus, Georgia; one sister, Mrs. Emily (Bishop Willie) Franklin of Yulee, Florida; a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins, including a devoted cousin and caregiver, Mr. Oscar Johnson Jr. of Bloomfield, Connecticut.
