PLAINS — On March 24 and 25, the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site is hosting a BioBlitz, a partnership project with National Geographic focused on documenting all species within the National Historic Site. Visitors will come to the three site locations (Plains Depot, Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm, and Plains High School) to take photos of any living species that they see using the digital app iNaturalist. Information and photos collected will be put into a database for the biodiversity in our park. This citizen science project’s main goal is to collect as much data in this two-day period as possible.
For these two days, the Park Service is looking for approximately 40 volunteers to assist in providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants. They need people who can work various exhibit tables, assist with set up and cleanup, and entertain visitors both young and old. An expertise in the biodiversity of our park is not necessary, but they would desire mature and responsible individuals with strong work ethics.
