AMERICUS — Mrs. Yona Dorothy Skipper Nation, age 97, of 111 Dogwood Hills Road, Americus, Ga., passed away Sunday, Feb. 12, 2017, at Phoebe Sumter Hospital in Americus, Ga. A service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2017, at Central Baptist Church, 190 Upper River Road, Americus, Ga. The Rev. Hugh Deloach will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Americus, Ga. A visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m., an hour prior to the service, in the chapel of Central Baptist Church.
The following are asked to serve as active pallbearers: Tommy Kirbo, Cliff Kirbo, Ronny Pasley, John McCranie, Rhett Pasley, and Ross Pasley. Junior Cordell will serve as an honorary pallbearer.
Mrs. Yona Nation was born Feb. 23, 1919, in Crisp County, Ga. She worked for Manhattan Shirt Co. She was also employed by Dr. Lou Riccardi where she served as a receptionist of his dental practice. She was a lifelong member of Central Baptist Church. She spent many years as an active member of the Pilot Club serving as president during the 1970s. She volunteered as a “Pink Lady” at the hospital gift shop once a month for many years.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Skipper; her mother, Addie Timmons Skipper; her husband, James Clifford Nation; her brother, James M. Skipper; and her daughter, Yona Ruth Nation Kirbo. She is survived by one son, James Marvin Nation (Marianne) of Americus, Ga.; four grandchildren, Heather Nation Pasley (Ronny), Dorothy Kirbo McCranie (John), Clifford Marvin Kirbo (Holly), Thomas Levi Kirbo IV; two nephews, Jimmy Skipper (Diane) of Americus, Ga., and Wray Skipper (Elaine). She is also survived by 12 great-grandchildren and a number of grand-nieces and -nephews.
