Our opinion: Please show some southern hospitality

What a great day for a festival! The mild temperatures and sunny skies welcome visitors from all over the country to the Americus Hot Glass/Craft Beer Festival this afternoon in downtown Americus. Over 1,200 people are expected to be at festival, including glass blowers, brewery people, volunteers, and festival goers.
With visitors from all over the country here this week, we want to remind everyone to be welcoming. Give strangers a big smile and offer to help with directions, etc. We always want to put our best face forward to people who choose to visit our community. Who knows? Some of them might decide to come back to visit again or even to make their home here. It’s happened before.
We commend Americus Mainstreet/Downtown Director, Patrick Kay and the folks with Mobile Glass-Blowing Studios for coming up with this great festival concept. The event is an unusual and appealing vehicle by which we can showcase everything good about our community. The event will be held annually and should develop as Americus’ signature event.
