DAWSON — The Lower Chattahoochee River Soil & Water Conservation District announces the 2017 Soil Stewardship theme: “Healthy Soils are Full of Life”. Soil Stewardship Week will be officially celebrated April 30- May 7, and is a fun and educational learning experience for all students. Soil Stewardship Week helps remind every citizen of the power of each person to conserve natural resources and improve our world. This year marks the 62nd Anniversary of NACD Soil and Water Stewardship Week.
In addition to providing area schools with valuable conservation and natural resource learning materials, the Lower Chattahoochee River Soil and Water Conservation District is offering an Annual Poster Contest for third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade students from the nine counties located in the District: Clay, Lee, Quitman, Randolph, Schley, Stewart, Sumter, Terrell, and Webster counties. Posters must incorporate the “Healthy Soils are Full of Life” theme. The deadline for submitting the poster and entry form to your local Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) office or County District Supervisor is April 14. A first-, second- and third-place prize will be awarded from each county worth $50, $30, and $20 respectively.
The top winner from each county will go on to District competition. The District winner will receive a $150 prize and will be entered into the State Competition where it will be judged against other posters from across Georgia.
If you are interested in participating in the Poster Contest and would like to obtain more information, please contact your local Lower Chattahoochee River SWCD Supervisor or you may contact Luke Crosson with the Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission at (229) 995-6001 or lcrosson@gaswcc.org.
