1st Friday celebrates 125th anniversary of Windsor Hotel

AMERICUS — On Friday, June 2, Americus will hold its monthly “First Friday” downtown-wide open house. This First Friday is in honor of the 125th anniversary of the historic Windsor Hotel in downtown Americus! Festivities begin at 5 p.m. with most shops and businesses staying open until 8 p.m. “First Friday After Dark” continues the festivities into the night after 8 p.m.
Everyone is invited to come experience the city’s art, music, food, wares and crafts. The Americus Street Trolley will provide attendees transportation during the event. The trolley will make a loop of the event and is provided by Americus Main Street, free of charge. All activities, exhibits and performances are free of charge. In honor of the 125th anniversary of the Windsor Hotel, there will be tours of the facility and memorabilia displayed for attendees to enjoy. The Americus Welcome Center will have a reenactor on the steps of City Hall to bring back the 1832 feel of things while also having a photo booth inside! Americus Main Street will offer free carriage rides throughout downtown.
Local artwork will be on display throughout downtown. The Americus Center for the Arts invites everyone to come in, be a part of its art show and demonstrations, and take a look at the fresh, new look of the Arts Center! The historic Rylander Theatre will be hosting tours of the facility, free of charge, beginning at 7 p.m. and will show a film entitled “The Time Machine,” a ticketed event, starts at 8 p.m.
Eat, drink, and listen to live music Friday night indDowntown Americus. Bird Dog BBQ, Rosemary & Thyme, Juiced, Center Stage Market, and Floyd’s Pub will all have great food and drinks, and live music will be at select locations.
Attendees can also take advantage of great shopping deals downtown on Friday night. Allie’s Boutique & More, Minick Interiors, Rustic Charm, Center Stage Market, and The Maze will be open late, and all offering something special in the form of discounts, samples, tastings, giveaways, and more for customers.
This event is organized by Americus Main Street and the City of Americus. One of the goals is to cultivate downtown Americus’ economic and cultural enrichment by providing a platform for entertainment and social engagement to the general public on a regular basis.
