Student participants in Sumter Historic Trust’s second annual History Day Camp, presently underway, are enjoying learning about local history through interesting presentations at the Lee Council House, the Trust’s headquarters, and excursions to points of interest in the county. The week kicked off Monday with a tour of historic Oak Grove Cemetery led by former Sen. George Hooks that included making rubbings of tombstones. Later that day Jimmy Fuller of Albany spoke to the students about Native American tribes, the area’s earliest settlers, and illustrated his talk with artifacts.
