AMERICUS —This morning, nearly 920 college students are getting situated in their home for the next 10 months on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW). “Move-In Day” 2017 has come to Americus. The move-in process will continue throughout the weekend in the Southwestern Oaks, Magnolia and Southwestern Pines residence halls. Classes, however, do not begin until Tuesday, Aug. 15, which marks the official beginning of the fall semester.
Fall 2017 also marks GSW’s 111th year offering quality higher education in Southwest Georgia. Preparation has been underway all summer in the residence halls, in a number of academic buildings and among faculty and staff for the student arrival. Fifteen new faculty members join the GSW family this fall, along with new president, Neal Weaver, Ph.D.
Summer enrollment increased by 85 students, or 5.2 percent, from summer 2016. Fall enrollment projections are very encouraging as well, but the official student count will not be known until midway through the semester.
