Candlelight vigil for unity to be held at Rylander Park on Aug. 31

The Sumter County community is invited to participate in a candlelight vigil this coming Thursday, Aug. 31, at 7:00 p.m. at Rylander Park in downtown Americus.
Organized in response to recent events in Charlottesville, VA, the purpose of the vigil is to bring the community together in solidarity to show that “Hate Has No Home” in Sumter County. The organizing group, comprised of community advocates, members of church communities, and other interested individuals, seeks to honor diversity and promote a more united local community.
n addition to candle lighting, the vigil will include a lineup of speakers and live music. Attendees are asked to park in the Habitat for Humanity parking lot, the Downtown Parking lot behind the 1800, or in other available spaces. The vigil will be held rain or shine. Candles will be provided.
