ALBANY — Sarah Estes Boatner, 94, of Americus, Ga., passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Ga. The family will welcome guests for visitation from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Ga. A Celebration of Sarah’s Life will begin at 3 p.m. followed by burial at Riverdale Cemetery in Columbus, Ga., with the Rev. William Collins officiating.

Mrs. Boatner was born May 25, 1923, to her late parents Cecil B. Estes Sr. and Mattie Lu Wallis Estes in Phenix City, Ala. She attended Wynnton and graduated from Columbus High School, the University of Georgia, and Columbus College. Along with being a Girl Scout leader, Sarah was a kindergarten and substitute teacher for Muscogee County School for 32 years before retiring in 1998. She was a past member of Wynnton United Methodist Church and the Goodwill Sunday School Class. Mrs. Boatner loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Along with her parents Mrs. Boatner was preceded in death by her beloved husband James Vernon Boatner Sr.; a son, James Vernon Boatner Jr. of Albany, Ga.; three brothers, Cecil Estes Jr., Dan W Estes and Pete Estes. She is survived by: daughter, Ann (Emmitt) Johnson of Beaufort, N.C.; daughter-in-law Deborah Boatner of Leesburg, Ga.; four grandchildren, Kimberly (Rob) Taylor of Greensboro, N.C., Pamela(Tom) Wray of Greensboro, N.C., Jamie Darlington of Leesburg, Ga., and James Vernon Boatner III of Leesburg, Ga.; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Lois Estes Floyd of Columbus, Ga.; nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.
