MONTEZUMA – The Wildcats struggled to score in the first half and Macon County took advantage as they took control early on their way to a 72-59 win over Schley County.

“We were missing too many free throws and layups”, Schley County Head Coach Ernest Scott said. “Even though we played well and outscored Macon County in the second half, we weren’t able to recover from the errors in the first half.”

Macon County opened the game with an 11-2 run. The fast-pace style of the Bulldogs overwhelmed the Wildcats’ defense. By the end of the first quarter, Schley County trailed the Bulldogs 27-7.

The Wildcats played a better second quarter, scoring 21 points. However, they still trailed the Bulldogs 46-28 at halftime.

The Wildcats went toe-to-toe with the Bulldogs in the third quarter and actually outscored Macon County 18-15. By the end of the third quarter, Schley County managed to cut the deficit to 12 points.

However, that would be as close as the Wildcats would get as they could not recover from that first-quarter onslaught of the Bulldogs.

Jordan Taylor led the Wildcats in scoring with 27 points, including five three-pointers.

The Bulldogs had two players in double-figures. Clayton Jenkins Jr. and Trey Brown each led Macon County with 16 points.

The loss puts the Wildcats at 7-11 overall and 4-7 in region play.
