AMERICUS — Mrs. Elizabeth Law Smith, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at Magnolia Manor Nursing Center in Americus.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 5, at Bethel Baptist Church in Sumter County. The Rev. Steven Golden officiated. Interment followed at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Americus.
The family received friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 4, at Hancock Funeral Home, 427 S. Lee St., and at other times at the home of Shirley Bell on Bumphead Road.
Mrs. Smith was born on Oct. 27, 1923, in Macon County, a daughter of the late Horace Hampton Law and the late Lillie Belle Clark Law.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Odell Smith; a sister: Audrey Bell Law Smith and her husband Dennis; a son-in-law, Grady Bell, and grandchildren: Kathy Weaver, Michael Bell, Angie Widener Bishop, and Chad Smith.
Survivors include her son: David Smith (Beth); daughter: Shirley Bell; brother: James Law (Lillian); grandchildren: Roger Bell (Vicki), Donnie Bell, Brenda Vartenisian; and great-grandchildren: Heath Bell (Meredith), Candice Jones (John), Shane Bell (Debra), Jeramey Bell, Jonathan Mitchell, Jessica Mitchell, and Shannon French.
A longtime member of Bethel Baptist Church, Mrs. Smith was involved in Sunday School for 51 years. The church deacons are asked to serve as active or honorary pallbearers.
