AMERICUS – Georgia Southwestern State University golfer Vincent Norman has been tabbed as a semifinalist for the NCAA Division II Jack Nicklaus National Player of the Year Award.
Norman earned First Team All-Conference honors and leads the Hurricanes with a 72.22 stroke average this season. He took medalist honors at the Hurricane Invitational in February, recording five Top Five finishes in the Fall of 2017 and this Spring. Norman was named the PBC Golfer of the Week on Thursday, March 1, after winning the Hurricane Invitational at 10-under par.
Norman, a native of Stockholm, Sweden, is currently ranked as the 28th best player in the country and is ranked No. 10 in the Southeast Region. Norman finished tied for third place at the Peach Belt Conference Championship.
Norman broke the GSW 18-hole scoring record of 65, which was previously shared by Craig Gibson and Michael Harris with a Round 1 score of 64 (-8) at the Hurricane Invitational. Norman continued his excellent play by breaking the 36-hole scoring record of 136 the next day. That record was previously held by Adam McKinney, who shot a two-round score of 134 (-10).
Finalists for the award will be named on Thursday, May 17. Nicklaus Award recipients will be announced on Thursday, May 31. The honor will be presented by Jack Nicklaus himself at a ceremony during the final round of the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide at the Muirfield Village Golf Club.
