AMERICUS — The Sumter County Federation of Garden Clubs (SCFGC) recently held its annual plant sale with lots of plants and great bargains. The Federation members voted to donate part of the proceeds from the sale to the Harvest of Hope Food Pantry in Americus in memory of Jay Cliett, Ph.D., whowas one of the original organizers of the food pantry and instrumental in recruiting Ginger and Sonny Pinckard who have served as treasurer and executive director respectively since the very beginning of the food pantry in 2012.
Today the pantry distributes food free of charge to over 650 families each month. This would not be possible without the donations of food/funds from individuals, churches, clubs, school groups, businesses, and local grocery stores, and without the hours donated by volunteers at the food pantry.
