Shooting death investigation continues

AMERICUS — Mask Road was reopened to traffic after lunch on Thursday after having been closed overnight for a death investigation.
Sumter County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy, Col. Eric Bryant confirmed that the body of a black male in his early 30s was discovered in the roadway at Greystone trailer park on Mask Road between 11:30 and 11:45 p.m. Wednesday.
Bryant said the Region 3 Georgia Bureau of Investigation as well as the sheriff’s investigative team were called to the scene to conduct an investigation, which is ongoing. He said it is not clear whether the shooting was intentional or accidental. The body was taken to the State Crime Lab for autopsy.
As of mid-afternoon Thursday, the name of the victim has not been released.
