2 races develop in Sumter school board special election

AMERICUS — Qualifying ended at noon Friday for a Special Election for four seats on the Sumter County Board of Education. This will be held in conjunction with the General Election on Nov. 6.
For District 1, incumbent Alice Green runs unopposed as does incumbent James Reid Jr. in District 3.
Incumbent Edith A. Green faces opposition from Carolyn Hamilton in District 5.
One of the at-large seats up for election is also contested. Incumbent Dr. Mike Busman will not seek reelection. Marcus Arnett and John Edgemon both qualified to run for the seat this week.
Robert Brady, Sumter County Elections superintendent, said early voting will be held from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays Oct. 15-Nov. 2. Early voting will also be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 27.
Voters are required to show a photo ID in order to cast a ballot
