ELLAVILLE – The Schley County softball team exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take care of Crawford County by the score of 11-3 on Thursday, September, 6, at Schley County High School.

The Lady Wildcats scored a total of 11 runs on 10 hits and committed only one error. Crawford County scored three runs on three hits and committed five errors.

Alexis Bradshaw had the hot bat for Schley County. She went 3-for-4 at the plate, scored three runs and drove in an RBI. Carmen Phillips also had a solid day at the plate for the Lady Wildcats. Phillips went 2-for-4, scored a run and drove in an RBI. Jade Sellars also had a hot bat. Sellars went 2-for-3, scored two runs and drove in two RBIs.

Schley County pitcher Saige Whaley allowed three runs on three hits. Two of those runs were earned. She walked four batters and struck out two.

For Crawford County, they were led offensively by Riley Scaggs. Scaggs went 2-for-3 at the plate.

The Lady Wildcats scored one run in the first, one in the second and two in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead. Crawford County roared back in the top of the fifth to score three runs, making it a one-run game.

With two base runners on and one out, Kiara Sears bunted and reached on an error by Whaley. This loaded the bases for the Lady Eagles. Then Jaimee Hudson tripled, driving in two runs. Fortunately for the Lady Wildcats, those runs would be the last runs Crawford County would score in the game.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Lady Wildcats went to work to put the game out of reach. Nyiah Kelley led off the inning by being hit by a pitch. Emily Campbell hit into a double play, and it looked like the Lady Eagles were going to get out of the inning with no damage. However, Saige Whaley singled with two outs. Kelli Rees was brought in as a courtesy runner to run for Whaley. Rees stole second base. Then Perri DeVane drew a walk. The Lady Wildcats had runners at first and second with two outs. Rees then advanced to third on a passed ball and DeVane stole second. Then Landry Whaley drew a walk to load the bases for Jade Sellars. Sellars singled to center field, driving in Rees and DeVane. At this point, Schley County had a 6-3 lead. The Lady Wildcats got two more runs as both Darden Campbell and Jade Sellars scored on wild pitches, making it 8-3. Bradshaw then drove in Tamia Kelley on an RBI double. Carmen Phillips followed that up with an RBI single, scoring Bradshaw. The Lady Wildcats got their final run of the inning and the game when Phillips advanced to second on an error, then scored on an error by the Crawford County right fielder. At this point the game ended due to a run rule.

The Lady Wildcats have now won four straight. They will try to continue their winning streak when they travel to Columbus to take on Brookstone on Tuesday, September 11. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
