AMERICUS — Mrs. Mildred Kinard Wilson, age 101, of Americus, Ga., passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at her residence. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, at Central Baptist Church. Dr. Bryan Myers will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church foyer from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday. Interment will be private at Oak Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Wilson was born March 5, 1917, in Sumter County, daughter of the late Thomas Edmond Kinard and the late Melissa Cheek Kinard. She was an educator and helped her husband run their business, Dock Wilson’s Store. She was the oldest current member of Central Baptist Church and a former member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 36 years.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law; Bettie Kennedy of Americus, Anne Meadows (Jim) of Greensboro, Ga., and Cindy Schaeffner (Jeff) of Americus; four grandchildren and spouses, Howard Kennedy III (Theresa), Melissa Kennedy Rice (Randy), Meredith Meadows Howard (Greg) and Brandon Meadows; six great-grandchildren and spouses Jessica Getz (Josh), Josh Fuller (Shelly), Nathanial Kennedy, Jacob Kennedy, Eva Howard, and Elise Howard; and two great-great-grandchildren Landen McMullen and Emily Claire Getz. Having been a caregiver for her mother, her uncle, her husband, and sister, Mrs. Wilson exemplified the qualities of compassionate love and care for others, character strengths passed down to her daughters. Mrs. Wilson’s life is summed up in a quote by Holly Gerth, “A life well-lived and a heart well-loved are two of the best reasons to celebrate!”
Mrs. Wilson was preceded in death by her husband Irise “Dock” Wilson and a son-in-law Howard Kennedy.
