Local Boys & Girls Club changes name

AMERICUS — The board of directors has announced that the organization formerly named “Boys & Girls Club of Americus/Sumter County” has changed its legal name to “The Youth Academic & Enrichment Program of Americus/Sumter County Inc.”
That according to a press release from the board.
The release states that this name change is due to the decision to rescind the charter of the Boys & Girls Club of Americus/Sumter County back to the Boys & Girls Club of America. It is disappointing that this had to occur but with the local organization, which is still a 501 (c) (3), having served the local community by providing a safe-haven for hundreds of youth for over two decades, it was pertinent to keep the programs, funds, and operations locally.
The turnover rate of the former Chief Professional Officers (CEOs) and board members’ disengagement on the board over several years, in addition to the inability to have a sound and realistic sustainability plan and other infrastructural issues have made it difficult to continue in compliance with the National Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
Therefore, the board has decided to move forward as an independent organization for local youth and community. The organization looks forward to continuing to serve the youth with academic and enrichment programs as it has done for the last 20 years.
The board is in the process of reorganizing and restructuring to build a solid infrastructure to continue providing quality programs for the youth of Americus and Sumter County.
The release further solicits donations. At this time, financial support has never been more important. Your funds are necessary to continue providing first-class programs and the overall operations for our youth who need us most.
