Nine Schley County football players earn All-Region accolades

ELLAVILLE – Nine Schley County Wildcat football players earned All-Region honors for their performances on the field during the 2018 season.
On offense, two running backs from Schley County made First Team All-Region: senior Tra Sampson and sophomore Zamon Ross. Sampson rushed for 1,331 yards on 222 carries during the season and scored 16 rushing touchdowns. His yards per carry average was 6.0. He had six games in which he rushed for 100 yards or more. Ross rushed for 1,027 yards on 131 carries and scored five rushing touchdowns. He averaged 7.8 yards per carry and he had five games in which he rushed for 100 yards or more.
Senior TE Michael Wainwright made First Team All-Region. Wainwright caught three receptions for 65 yards. He had an average of 21.7 yards per catch. His longest catch of the season was for 41 yards. Junior offensive lineman Archer Hathaway and senior center Richie Quiroz were both selected as First Team All-Region honorees.
On the defensive side of the ball, four Wildcats earned First Team All-Region honors. Sophomore defensive lineman Zavion Solomon had 11 solo tackles and 23 assisted tackles for a total of 34 tackles on the season. Solomon also assisted on a sack which resulted in a four-yard loss. He also had five “hurries” (forcing the opposing team’s quarterback to get rid of the ball before he was ready). Junior linebacker Trent Bivins also earned First Team All-Region honors. Bivins had three sacks for a total of 16 yards. He also had four hurries. Bivins had 47 solo tackles and 27 assisted tackles for a total of 74 tackles on the season. His biggest tackle for a loss was for 12.5 yards.
Senior free safety Dartavious Napper was also named First Team All-Region. Napper missed a few games because of injury. However, in seven games played, Napper had 28 solo tackles and 22 assisted tackles for a total of 50 tackles on the season. Napper also had two fumble recoveries. Sophomore middle linebacker /long snapper Jacob Long also earned First Team All-Region accolades. Long played in eight games. In those eight games played, Long had an interception, tallied two sacks and had six hurries. He also served as the team’s long snapper on punts, field goals and extra points.
On special teams, senior cornerback/wide receiver Jamyron Clayton was named the Region 4 Special Teams Player of the Year. Junior All-American outside linebacker/tight end Zykevious Walker was named Region 4 Co-Defensive Player of the Year, along with Kendrick Hawkins of Marion County.
Congratulations are in order for all of these Schley County Wildcats for their accomplishments on the field during the 2018 season.
