Schley County Board Commissioners honor Douglas Jamieson
The Schley County Board of Commissioners honored Douglas Jamieson at a special meeting. Douglas has just completed two terms as a Schley County commissioner and has done so much for the county.
He was honored at the December meeting where he was awarded a plaque that reads “In recognition of Douglas Jamieson for his dedication to the Citizens of Schley County and the State of Georgia as Commissioner, District 1 — January 1, 2011 to December 1,2018.” He was presented this special recognition by Board of Commissioners Chairman Schley Greg Barineau.
A reception was held in the courtroom of the courthouse. All county employees attended this special event.
Barineau commended Jamieson for his service to the county over the past eight years. He said holding the reception in the courthouse was appropriate because Douglas had supervised all the work to renovate the courthouse and had done a magnificent job.

Schley County Family Connection update
Schley County Family Connection Collaborative announces a few updates:
• Submitted a $5,000 grant application for the Deep Canine Rescue Inc. Rescue to purchase dog food, kennels, a microchip reader/scanner and kennel, and training supplies. The 501-C-3 organization is a no-kill animal shelter located in Schley County. In 2017, Deep South rescued and trained 128 dogs in 10 counties including Schley, Sumter, Taylor, Macon, Webster, Lee, Stewart, Bibb, Crisp, and Laurens. They should hear the results of the grant sometime this month.
• Collaborated with Schley County Department Family and Children Services (DFCS) and Toys for Tots to provide toys to 60-plus children in Schley County for Christmas. The children were screened by Schley County DFCS for eligibility. This marks the 10th year that the Marine Corps Reserve has teamed up with the Georgia State Patrol to operate the program.
• The next Family Connection meeting will be at noon Jan. 24 at the Thomas Edwin Wall Post 191 American Legion.

Advisory councils of Georgia agencies launch major study
Your voice matters. You are invited to help improve the lives of people with mental illness, addictive diseases, and intellectual/developmental disabilities, and strengthen community efforts in prevention and early intervention.
The Regional Advisory Councils of the State of Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) have launched a major study to identify needs and help. The state is eager to hear from 8,000 Georgians representing all 159 counties. The survey period will close on April 15.
