PLAINS — The Carter Unit, one of nine clubhouses operated by Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany, opened its doors to youth ages six through 18 in late February. With over 20 members, the youth development organization is committed to helping young people reach their full potential through academic, health and wellness, character and citizenship, and recreational programming.
Trained youth development professionals and dedicated volunteers plan, lead, and support activities for youth and teens. Activities at the Club include homework time, arts and crafts, STEM programs, service, character building programs, gardening, cooperative and recreational games and more.
Throughout the academic year, the After School Program operates from 3-7 p.m. Monday through Friday. For the remainder of the school year, After School Program registration is free, thanks to a generous donor. From May 28-July 19, the Club will run its Summer Program from 9 a.m.-6 p.m., with an optional early bird drop-off from 7:30-9 a.m. The Summer Program registration fee is $25 per child. The Summer Program will include the aforementioned activities, as well as additional recreational options and field trips.
The public is invited to attend the Grand Opening Celebration from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 27 at the clubhouse on Waymon Street. This free family event will include children’s activities, a bounce house, free lunch, club tours, and registration assistance for those interested in signing up for the after school and/or summer program.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Albany has been serving children in southwest Georgia for over 50 years.
