Schley Family Connection honors 2019 graduates with technology awards

On May 30, Schley County Family Connection met at Ellaville Baptist Church to honor the Schley County High School valedictorian, salutatorian, STAR Student and STAR Teacher.

John Greene called the meeting to order, the Rev. Haynes Martin opened with the blessing. A catered lunch from B’s Barbecue was served.

Those offering comments were state Rep. Mike Cheokas, R-Americus; Brian Hall, interim superintendent of Schley County Schools; and Principal Tee Reddish.

Noah Hammons was introduced as the STAR Student and spoke about Gabe Theiss, his STAR Teacher.

Kenneth Cutts, representing Congressman Sanford Bishop, D-Albany, made special presentations to the STAR Student and Teacher.

Gage Hart, valedictorian, and Madison Sellars, salutatorian, gave briefs remarks. All the students, and Dartavious Napper received laptop computers to take to college.

Michael Johnson with the Georgia Family Connection Partnership spoke highly of Ellaville and John Greene, coordinator.

 

Special graduation celebration honors Avery Clements, Michael Wilson

A special graduation celebration honoring two 2019 Schley County High School graduates, Avery Clements and Michael Wilson, was held May 25 after the graduation ceremony. This special event was held at the home of Nancy Queen Young in Marion County.

Guest tables were covered with black tablecloths with graduation-themed center pieces in the school colors. Guest tables were placed under tents.

The meal was catered Jason and Haley Dobbs. The delicious meal consisted of barbecue, grilled chicken, baked beans, and potato salad. The hostess made cole slaw. A lovely large cake was served, made by MaLinda McKinney.

Graduates in attendance, in addition to the honorees, were John Thomas Robinson and Landon Ferrill from Schley County High School, Jon Anderson from Southland Academy, and William Goodwin of Tift County.

There was a large attendance with family and friends of the graduates present and many from long distances.

Ellaville Methodist Church plans 2019 Vacation Bible School Ellaville United Methodist Church is planning its 2019 Vacation Bible School which will be from 6-8:45 p.m. June 23-26.

The theme this year is “Giddy Up Junction” and Bible School has expanded in ages from three years old to eighth graders.
As always there will be special crafts, music, stories, games, and supper every night.
