(July 16-18)
• Firefighters responded to 11 calls for medical assistance.
• Firefighters responded to Jackie’s Lil Tooty Tots, 415 Winn St., to a smoke detector activation. An employee told them she was boiling water and the steam triggered the alarm.
• Firefighters responded to a smoke alarm on Murphy Mill Road. It was activated by cooking, No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Forsyth Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Tom Hall Circle. Sumter County Fire & Rescue personnel, already on scene, advised it was caused by a pot in the stove. No other hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to a report of a structure fire on South Hampton Street. The occupant advised they heard a noise coming from the breaker box. Fire personnel investigated and found one breaker flipped off and hot to the touch. They did a walk-through with thermal imaging and found the outside A/C unit to be hot. They cut power to it and advised occupant to contact an electrician.
• Firefighters responded to Virginia Avenue to a “malicious false alarm.”
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 19 South.
