Wildcats score five first-half touchdowns to secure victory over Calhoun County

ELLAVILLE –The Schley County football team was on fire Friday night, August 30, at Schley County High School (SC). The Wildcats scored three rushing touchdowns and two touchdowns from the arm of quarterback Garrett Peavy in the first half to propel themselves to a 48-6 lopsided victory over Calhoun County (CC).
SC running back Zamon Ross got the Wildcats on the board when he scored a rushing touchdown from nine yards out. The extra point attempt by Demarcus Clark was good and the Wildcats had an early 7-0 lead. Running back Trent Bivins added to the Wildcats’ lead when he scored a rushing touchdown from 23 yards out. Clark’s extra point attempt was good and the lead was doubled at 14-0. Running back Tyler Vickery scored another rushing touchdown for the Wildcats to increase their lead to 21-0. The Wildcats were also able to score touchdowns from the passing game as Peavy threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Williams to stretch the lead out to 28-0. Peavy would later throw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Luke Renfroe. Clark was 4-for-5 on extra points in the first half, and the Wildcats had a commanding 34-0 halftime lead.
The Wildcats picked up where they left off in the second half. Peavy threw his third touchdown pass of the game to Landon Dailey to give SC a 41-0 lead and threw his fourth touchdown pass later in the game to Renfroe, who caught his second touchdown reception of the night. CC would get on the board with a touchdown, but the Wildcats went on to win 48-6.
Peavy was 13-for-18 for 206 yards and threw four touchdown passes on the night. Bivins rushed for 101 yards on six carries and scored one touchdown.
The Wildcats will try to continue their winning ways when they travel to Columbus on Thursday, September 12, to take on Spencer. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
