ALBANY — Mr. Charles Samuel Smith Jr., age 82. passed away Monday, Sept. 9, 2019, at the Willson Hospice House. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at Calvary Episcopal Church, Americus. Father Richard Nelson will officiate. Interment will follow in the Williams Family Cemetery in Smithville. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the Calvary Episcopal Church fellowship hall.
Mr. Smith was born July 1, 1937, in Terrell County. He was the son of the late Charles Samuel Smith Sr., the late Alma Lee Paul Williams, and stepfather the late Henry Calvin Williams. He earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Georgia Southern University and a master’s degree from Auburn University. Mr. Smith taught middle school at McIntosh Middle School in Albany and retired as a guidance counselor for the school. He was a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Americus.
Survivors include a brother and sister-in-law Dr. Ray Williams and Sheila of Smithville; three nieces and their spouses Lea Turner and Steve of Kingsport, Tenn., Amy Flurry and Alan of Athens, Ga., and Amanda Rothwell and David of Braselton, Ga. A nephew and spouse Dr. Jason Williams and Jill of Albany and 10 great-nieces and -nephews Corbin Turner, Amelia Turner, Ellis Flurry, Camille Flurry, Joshua Williams, Catherine Williams, Madison Williams, Vivien Rothwell, Clara Rothwell and Walker Rothwell also survive.
