Raiders get drubbed by Valwood

VALDOSTA – The Southland Academy Raiders (SAR) went down to Valdosta hoping to end a four-game losing streak with a win over Valwood (VS). Unfortunately, however, they were drubbed and shut out 49-0 Friday evening at the Valwood School.
The Valliants opened the scoring by completing an 11-play, 75-yard drive with a 26-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Tayt Snellgrove to James Godbee. The extra point was good and the Raiders trailed 7-0 with 6:32 to go in the first quarter.
The Valliants followed that up with a two-play, 54-yard touchdown drive, which was finished with a 20-yard run for a touchdown by Triston White. The extra point was good and the Raiders trailed 14-0.
However, VS was still not done, as the Valliants completed a five-play, 47-yard drive that resulted in a rushing touchdown by Marquis Fennell. The extra point was good and VS enjoyed a 21-0 lead with 10:54 to go in the first half.
Shortly thereafter, the Valliants completed another touchdown drive when Snellgrove completed a 58-yard touchdown pass to Fennell. The extra point was good and the Raiders found themselves trailing 28-0.
The Valliants continued to pour it on, as they completed a three-play, 83-yard touchdown drive with a touchdown pass from Snellgrove to De’Mar Riley. The extra point was good and the score was now 35-0 in favor of the Valliants.
Unfortunately for the Raiders, there would be more scoring for the Valliants. With 6:10 to go in the third quarter, VS completed a five-play, 36-yard drive with a three-yard rushing touchdown from Triston White. The extra point was good and the Valliants led 42-0.
VS would add one more touchdown and extra point before the game was over, as De’Mar Riley ran the ball 54 yards for his second touchdown of the night. The extra point was good and the Valliants would go on to win 49-0.
SAR Quarterback Banks Simmons completed 10 of 22 passes for 120 yards and Perry Usher caught three passes for 47 yards on the night.
The Raiders are now 2-6 overall and 0-3 in the GIAA Region 3-AAA standings. They will try to end their five game losing streak when they host Tiftarea Academy this coming Friday at 7:30 p.m.
