VALDOSTA – The Southland Academy Raiders (SAR) were hoping to avenge their 49-0 loss to Valwood (VAL) a few weeks ago and advance to the next round of the GIAA Class AAA State Playoffs. Unfortunately, though they played much better against the Valiants in this second meeting, they were not able to come up with a victory and fell to VAL by the score of 35-13 Friday night at the Valwood School.

The Valiants took the lead in the first quarter by orchestrating an 11-play, 68-yard drive with a rushing touchdown from Bryant Roland. The extra point was good and the Raiders found themselves trailing 7-0 with 7:03 to go in the first quarter.

SAR fought back, however, as they completed a 14-play, 73-yard drive with a seven-yard run for a touchdown by Trey Sellers. The extra point by Cooper Boren was good and the score was tied at 7-7.

However, from that point on, it was all Valiants, as they would take the lead on a 34-yard run for a touchdown by De’mar Riley. The extra point was good and the Valiants led 14-7.

VAL would add to its lead when quarterback Tayt Snellgrove completed a touchdown pass to Dax Womack. The extra point was good and the Raiders trailed the Valiants 21-7.

VAL would later add to its lead when Riley would score a 55-yard rushing touchdown. The extra point was good and the score was 28-7 in favor of the Valiants.

The Raiders were able to get another score with 6:15 left in the fourth quarter when quarterback Banks Simmons completed a touchdown pass to Sellers, but that would be all the scoring that the Raiders would get in this ball game.

The Valiants were able to put the icing on the cake when

Riley broke through the SAR defense and scampered 34 yards for a touchdown. The extra point was good and the Raiders would go on to lose to the Valiants 35-13.
