In conjunction with December First Friday events, the Sumter Players will bring an original performance, A Victorian Christmas, to the beautiful Windsor Hotel. Sumter Players board member Michael Moir came up with the concept of the show, stating, “As a professor of literature, I like to think that the stories, songs, and poems of the past help link our lives in the present with those of our forebears. And since so much of Americus is built in the Victorian architectural style, a performance that brought participants back to the 19th century seemed appropriate (not to mention the fact that the Sumter Players shows that drew the biggest audiences last year, The Importance of Being Earnest and Oliver!, were either written or set in the Victorian era). We at Sumter Players think of this performance as a holiday gift to the residents of Sumter County that we hope will bring people together over a bowl of wassail and a nice figgy pudding.”

The “revelers” in the show are all ages, and the youngest, 7 year old Quincy Patterson, is especially excited about the show. He said, “I like Christmas carols, so I really like being in A Victorian Christmas. I think it’s nice that the show is free, so if you don’t have a lot of money, but you really want to see the show, you can just come in and watch, I think that’s really cool.” Quincy went on to say that his favorite part about being in Sumter Players shows is making a lot of friends and getting to spend time with them.

This free performance begins at 7 pm on Friday, December 1, in the lobby of the Windsor Hotel. At the end of the show, attendees will receive small gifts in addition to their figgy pudding and wassail, which will be served in Little Brothers Bistro.
