ELLAVILLE – After one half of play, things looked pretty good for the Schley County Lady Wildcats (SCHS), but in the second half, the Chattahoochee County Lady Panthers (CHATTCO) went on a 15-0 run and it changed the whole complexion of the game, as from then on out, CHATTCO was in total control. As a result, the Lady Wildcats would go on to lose to the Lady Panthers 59-49 on Friday, December 15, at Schley County High School.

The Lady Wildcats had two players score in double figures. Jamesen Holloman led SCHS in scoring with 18 points and Emma Walker poured in 11. Payton Goodin almost scored in double figures, as she chipped in nine points in the winning cause.

In the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats jumped out to a 10-5 lead. Then Emma Walker increased the SCHS lead to 13-5 with a three-pointer from the baseline.

For much of the second quarter, the Lady Wildcats continued to play solid defense in the half court and were able to take advantage of cold shooting by the Lady Panthers. On the offensive end, SCHS was able to break the full-court press of CHATTCO by passing through it and scored some easy layups as a result.

However, late in the first half, the Lady Panthers were able to score some points off turnovers with their half court trap. Nevertheless, by halftime, the Lady Wildcats led 26-19.

However, the Lady Panthers went on a 7-0 run to start the second half. That run was capped off by a three-pointer from Jessica Carter to tie the game at 26-26. During this portion of the game, the Lady Wildcats were struggling to score in the half court and the Lady Panthers took advantage of it, as they went on another run to take a 31-26 lead. Things got worse for SCHS, as Carter hit another three-pointer, giving the Lady Panthers a 34-26 lead. In just a few minutes, CHATTCO had gone on a 15-0 run before Daneria Thornton scored the Lady Wildcats’ first points of the second half.

In the early minutes of the fourth quarter, the Lady Panthers ratcheted up their defensive pressure and went on 5-0 run to take a 44-28 lead, prompting SCHS Head Coach Brent Moore to call a timeout with around seven minutes left in the game.

From that point onward, the Lady Wildcats tried their best to get back into the game, but the hole was too deep to dig out of and they went on to lose to CHATTCO by the score of 59-49.

Carter led all scorers with 23 points and her CHATTCO teammate Kamiyah Brown poured in 14 in the winning cause.
