Awards given out at Sumter County Board of Education’s monthly meeting

AMERICUS – Several awards were given out at Thursday night’s Sumter County Board of Education monthly meeting to various students who are excelling in the classroom.
Londyn Coley, a fifth grader at Sumter County Intermediate School, was the second place winner in the Georgia Writers Museum sixth annual Spooky Story Contest.
Sumter County Primary School student Dallas Johnson won an award for proficiency in math and Amani Binn won an award for reading proficiency. Tyler Hudson won the Star Early Literacy Award for reading proficiency.
Sumter County Elementary School second grader M’Kyren Laster and third grader Daniel Allen each won awards for math proficiency, while second grader Ja’Nyla Stone and third grader Bailee Rose Hubbard each won awards for reading proficiency.
In the Sumter County Intermediate School category, fourth grader Jace Jackson, fifth grader Timothy Battle and sixth grader Litzy Mejia each won math awards, while fourth grader Payton Floyd, fifth grader Markeldrick Gibson and sixth grader Benjamin Jackson each won awards for reading proficiency,
In the Sumter County Middle School category, seventh grader Aubrey English and eighth grader Elijah Monts won Math proficiency awards, while seventh grader Dayana Guerrero and eighth grader Jaylen Merritt won awards for proficiency in Reading.
At the Sumter County High School level, freshman Madelynn Dice, sophomore Antonio Cook, junior Karla Lizarraga Burciaga and senior Arrion Coley each won awards for proficiency in math, while freshman Isaac Quinones, sophomore Dario Ruvalcaba, junior Hendrick Gordon and senior Kierra Wilkerson each won awards for proficiency in Reading.
In other news from the Board of Education meeting, the BOE approved the purchase of a wholesale commercial laundry equipment S.E., LLC washer and dryer for the amount of $24,974.00. Board member Rick Barnes made a motion for approval and board member Vincent Kearse seconded the motion. The BOE voted and the motion to approve passed unanimously.
Shortly thereafter, the BOE voted to adjourn the meeting with no executive session.
