Fourteen teams of golfers gathered at the Griffin Bell Golf Course for The Knights of Columbus Golf Tournament held by Council 7113 on April 13th. Contestants arrived at 8:30 a.m. Birds sang as golfers congregated around the practice green, the long golf course before them only interrupted by a few tall pines. The competition lasted most of the morning, wrapping up towards mid-day.
The first-place team was composed of Greg Barnetson, Mark Goodin, John Jackson, and Mitchel Goodin, winning $262.50. The second-place team was comprised of Bradley Kitchens, Matt Cannon, Bryon McMichael, and Tracy Law, winning $187.50. The third-place team had Josh Weeks, Peyton Weeks, David Grace, and Mike O’Conner, winning $112.50, which they donated back to the Knights of Columbus. Afterward, there was a $5,000 putting contest, however, the contestant was unable to win the award as their ball went four feet past the hole.
Ron Ackerman spoke for the Knights, expressing his enthusiasm for the wide community support. “We have great participation from hole sponsors and prize donors.”
While the amount raised is still being counted, the Knights plan to select charities during their May meeting.
