Wildcats rally from four runs down to defeat Bleckley County

The Schley County High School Softball Team (SCHS) earned its first win of the season by rallying from four runs down to defeat the Bleckley County Royals by the score of 7-6 on Tuesday, August 6 at Wildcat Park.

The Wildcats went into the bottom of the fifth inning trailing 6-2, but erupted for five runs on four hits and took advantage of one error and two walks. Emma Campbell led off the frame with a single. Two batters later, Dixie Justice notched a one-out infield single to put runners at first and second. After Emma Sizemore hit into a fielder’s choice for the second out, Kali Bishop was able to reach on an error that allowed Campbell to score.

Abby Cheek would then reach on a fielder’s choice and Reece Bell followed that up with an RBI single, making the score 6-4 in favor of Bleckley County with the bases loaded. Then Payton English was able to draw a walk that brought home another run. The Wildcats then tied the game at 6-6 on an RBI single from Summer Smith and would take the lead for good when Campbell drew another walk that allowed Bell to score from third.

The Royals loaded the bases in the top of the seventh inning against SCHS relief pitcher Summer Smith, but Smith was able to retire the next three batters in order to preserve the 7-6 victory.

Reece Bell led the Wildcats’ offense by going 2 for 3 at the plate with an RBI and two runs scored and Dixie Justice went 2 for 4 with a run scored.

Alyssa Harry got the start in the circle for the Wildcats. In three innings of work, she gave up four runs on seven hits, walked one and struck out three. Summer Smith came on in relief of Harry and gave up two runs on five hits with a walk and four strikeouts in four innings of work.
