Hurricane golf takes second in Argonaut Invitational

GULF BREEZE, FL – The No. 13-ranked Georgia Southwestern men’s golf team finished in second place out of 16 teams in the Argonaut Invitational at Tiger Point Golf Club, hosted by the University of West Florida on March 29-31. GSW posted a team score of 886 after 3 rounds on the 72-par, 7026 yard course and were 11 strokes behind the leaders North Alabama.
In round one of the tournament, Chris Low finished four strokes behind the leader after shooting a three-under par score of 69. Low logged a 75 in Round two to sit tied for third out of 85 golfers.
Nicholas Ward entered the third round tied for 17th with a score of 150 (74, 76).
Hayes Dupree (78, 74) and Anders Olsson (75, 77) both posted scores of 152 and entered the final round tied for 24th.
Fraser Johnston (75, 78) was tied for 34th with a score of 153 after two rounds.
The ‘Canes, as a team, entered the final round tied for second out of 16 teams with a team score of 595 after posting a 293 in round one and a 302 in round two. This put the ‘Canes only five strokes behind the leaders, No. 25 ranked North Alabama on the last day of the competition.
The Hurricanes returned to the links on March 31 for the final round of the competition. At the tournament’s conclusion, the Hurricanes had two top 10 finishers including Low and Ward. Low, who led the Hurricanes, posted a three-round score of 220 and tied for sixth overall. Low was 11 strokes behind the leader, Forrest Knight, from North Alabama.
Ward jumped nine spots and finished 8th with a score of 221 after shooting his lowest scoring round of the tournament today of 71, 1-under par.
Dupree also shot a 1-under par of 71 today to post a a 223 and move up 12 spots from the second round to finish tied for 12th.
Olsson and Johnston both tied for 26th with scores of 227. Olsson moved up eight spots after shooting his lowest scoring round of 74.
The Hurricanes return to the the links on April 17 for the Peach Belt Conference Championship at Greenwood Country Club in Greeenwood, S.C.
