• Firefighters responded to 56 calls for emergency assistance.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Sweet Avenue which was activated by someone working on the sprinkler system.
• Firefighters responded to s structure fire on Barlow Street where a contractor working on the house installing roofing, and had unknowingly caught the attic on fire.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on North Jackson Street.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on South Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Lee Street. There was no fire but the system had been worked on earlier in the day.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Wheatley Street. There was no fire.
• Firefighters visited a school on Valley Drive and read to the students and gave a safety presentation.
• Firefighters responded to Taylor and Furlow streets to a report of a spill. They found several areas of colorless, odorless substance in the roadway but no hazards.
• Firefighters responded to Cherokee Street to a possible structure fire. The occupant told them there was heavy smoke and a strong smell coming from the kitchen area. After investigating, they found that a washer machine belt had burned.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on South Lee Street that was accidentally triggered.
• Firefighters stood by for football games at Americus-Sumter High School and Southland Academy.
• Firefighters responded to East Furlow Street to a report of a fire in a greenhouse. Occupants said a pressure washer was low on oil and was smoking.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Harrold Avenue which was triggered by accident.
• Firefighters responded to a carbon monoxide alarm on Academy Street. No hazards were found.
• Firefighters responded to Tripp and Parker streets to a report of a smoking power pole. They found no smoke or fire but found a singed, dead squirrel on the ground underneath a transformer.
• Firefighters responded to Wildwood Circle to assist someone who was locked out of their residence.
• Firefighters conducted a fire safety presentation at Furlow Charter School, 300 Cherokee St.
• Firefighters responded to West Lamar Street to a report of someone stuck in an elevator; it was a false alarm.
• Firefighters responded to a structure fire on Second Montgomery Street. They found the origin in the kitchen. They extinguished the fire, ventilated the structure and performed salvage and overhaul.
• Firefighters read to students at Southland Academy.
• Firefighters responded to Second Montgomery Street to a possible rekindle of a previous fire. They found a small amount of insulation in the attic smoldering. They extinguished the embers.
• Firefighters performed smoke detector detail on Park Row and Lafayette Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Sharon Circle. It was a system malfunction.
• Firefighters responded to Sun Valley Drive to a report of a tree on power lines. They found a limb resting on the power lines, arcing. Georgia Power was summoned.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on North Dudley Street. They found light smoke coming from the structure. A worker told them a fire extinguisher had been activated.
• Firefighters provided assistance at the Special Olympics at Georgia Southwestern State University.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Park Row Extension. The occupant told them she had left a bag on the stove and turned the stove on.
• Firefighters responded to a traffic accident on East Lamar Street.
• Firefighters responded to an alarm on Country Club Drive which was triggered by the occupant changing the battery.

• Irene Cross, 47, of 314-B Forrest St., Americus is charged with disorderly conduct, and was released after time served.
• William B. Daniel of 1708 Lafayette St., Americus is charged with failure to stop at a stop sign.
• Dominique S. Deriso, 21, of 1109-A Oglethorpe Ave., Americus is charged with disorderly conduct.
